The United Nations set aside February 11th every year to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI) Calabar aligns with the global community in commemorating this day by embracing this year’s theme: ‘Women and Girls in Science Leadership, a New Era for Sustainability,’ along with the sub-theme: ‘Think science… Think Peace.’
In recent years, we’ve witnessed a significant shift in the science and technology landscape, with an increasing number of women and girls actively participating and excelling in various scientific disciplines. The theme emphasizes the need for nurturing leadership qualities among women and girls in science, paving the way for a new era where diversity and inclusivity drive innovation and sustainability.
It’s essential to recognize and support initiatives that empower young women and girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Let’s celebrate the achievements of women and girls in science leadership, acknowledging their vital role in steering us toward a more sustainable and equitable future.
Let’s empower and uplift the next generation of female leaders who will leave an indelible mark on the world of science and beyond.
