Home > Activity Reports > THREE DAYS PERSONAL SKILL TRAINING OF THE BENEFICIARIES OF LARFARGE VOCATIONAL SKILLS ACQUISITION

 

 

Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI) organized a three days training on personal skill development for young women between the ages of 18-25 years with support from Lafarge Holcim for host communities in Cross River State from 28th-30th September 2021 at GPI conference hall, Calabar.

The participants aged between 18-35 years which includes girls and young women, especially survivors of intersecting forms of GBV including harmful traditional practices from Mbobui, Ekong Anaku, Akwa Ikot Efangha, Abiata, Mfamosing, Kasuk, Essien town, Diamond hill, and Obutung communities in Akpabuyo, Akamkpa and Calabar Municipality L.G.A.s

The training was aimed at building the capacity of participants on life skills for effective learning in their different professional skills, financial literacy, livelihood/vocational skills. And some of the topics taken included Vision and Goal Setting, Values/Peer Pressure, Gender Concept/Roles, Communication skills, Prevention of Sexual Abuse/ Exploitation, Decision making, Conflict Management, Financial literacy, Interpersonal relationship. Time and Stress management, Community Development and Social Action.

Brenda Effiom, a representative from LAFARGE HOLCIM and the program officer of Girls’ Power Initiative, Calabar Centre, Ndodeye Bassey gave them an overview of the project and encouraging them to take the training serious seeing themselves to be opportune of being selected as well as to endeavour to train others so as to impact in their various communities. They were also encouraged to learn male dominated skill.
