Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI) Nigeria organizes Advocacy Strategy Development Workshop from 19th to 21st June, 2018 at GPI Conference Hall for over 30 young women in Cross River State.

The first day of the workshop was graced by the presence of the Permanent Secretary, Cross River State, Ministry of Youth and Sports – Mrs. Ninka Takon, who took the opening address and highlighted the importance of advocacy in policy review and implementation in Cross River State.

Speaking about the project, the Coordinator of GPI Calabar, Mrs. Comfort Ikpeme said that the project is to increase advocacy capacity of young women on sexual and reproductive health and rights. This project is funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and one of its task is to revive the Network to Curb Sexual Abuse (NETCUSA). NETCUSA was setup in order to address the increasing menace of sexual abuse of girls and women in Calabar and its environs.

The workshop had two resource persons and topics taken included: Understanding Advocacy and its issues, formulating advocacy strategy, developing key messages, identifying target audience, etc. The facilitators engaged the participants in group work, presentations and development of a draft work plan for advocacy campaign.
