Girls’Power Initiative (GPI) Calabar Centre, with support from HIVOS under the WeLead project, facilitated other Gender-based violence prevention and response partners, organizations working on issues of Human Rights as well as Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in collaboration with the Cross River State Ministry of Women Affairs to flag off the 2023 16 Days of Activism on Saturday 25th November
2023 with the theme: UNiTE! Invest to end Violence Against Women and Girls.
The flag-off was done by the Hon. Commissioner, Cross River State Ministry of Women Affairs in Calabar. She called on everyone to join in the campaign to end Violence against women and girls. Closely following the flag off was a media dialogue for media representatives from print, electronic and online media in Cross River State.
Highlights of the media dialogue:
– Goodwill messages from GPI, National Human Rights commission, office of wife of governor, FIDA etc.
– A brief by the Hon. Commissioner

Question and answer session on issues of implementation of laws protecting Girls and women in the state, statistics on cases of VAWG, addressing issues of Stigma on persons living with HIV and persons with disability, ensuring inclusion, accessibility and functionality of the sex offenders register, funding for SRHR services etc.
