GPI Calabar Open Day for safe space education held on the 21st of January 2018 at GPI conference hall for all GPI girls from all the groups and their facilitators.

The safe space education is the weekly  lessons  for  adolescent  girls  aged  10-18  is  aimed  at  empowering  the  girls  with information on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights  (SRHR)  which will enable them live healthy  lives, realize  their  full  potential,  achieve set  goals and  become visible  women  in future.

The program which has a three year curriculum is organized into three levels and beneficiaries divided into 8 groups which are age specific and following year(s) of participation.   In Level One the classes from youngest to oldest are; Shining Stars, Precious, Silvers, and Pearls. In Level Two they are Bosoms, and Alphas. In Level Three they are Damsels, and Seeders.

The objective of the activity was:

  • To officially welcome the centre girls back from their Christmas and New Year holiday.
  • To enable the organization to evaluate how the girls were able to apply the security tips during the holidays.
  • To encourage them set realistic goals and work towards achieving them.

The event feature interactive discussion with the girls, questions and answers, songs, brainstorming exercise, etc.

Facilitators also spoke with the girls on vision and goal setting, ways of making career decisions, how to achieve goals with the right behaviour, personal hygiene, decent dressing, etc.
