grace-osakue-370x290BENIN CITY – The Girls Power Initiative (GPI), an NGO has commenced the training of 1,260 peer educators in Edo State on human trafficking and irregular migration.
The peer educators are to be drawn from 21 selected secondary schools, including three from each of the seven Local Government Areas in Edo South Senatorial District, with each producing 60.
The training which is done in collaboration with the Belgium Immigration Authority is part of a six month comprehensive programme aimed at deepening understanding of human trafficking and illegal migration among in and out of school children and other stakeholders in the locality.
Besides, sensitisation campaigns are expected to be held in selected major markets in the focus areas for the purpose of taking the anti-human trafficking and illegal migration campaigns to the grassroot.
As part of the comprehensive approach, town hall meetings have been held in Oredo and Egor Local Government Areas, with another expected to be held in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. –
