Sunday Safe Space Sessions

The GPI core programme empowers adolescent girls and young women with sexuality education and life management skills.

Overview

Safe Space Sessions run every Sunday from 3-6PM and are completely free of charge.

Each week, our experienced facilitators lead GPI girls through an age-appropriate topic from a gender perspective. Topics include communication skills, gender and leadership roles, teenage pregnancy and childbirth, and Sexually Transmitted Infections. Facilitators provide factual and non-judgemental information.

Upon graduating from the programme, girls use their newfound knowledge and skills to  carry out social work interventions in rural communities. Early marriage, teenage pregnancies, Female Genital Mutilation and other harmful traditional practices have reduced in light of these interventions.

Girls progress through Levels One through Three of the programme and join age-stratified groups. These groups are as follows:

Level 1

Shining Stars

Mainly 10- and 11-year-old girls, they stand out for their knowledge, assertiveness and boldness.

Precious

12-13 year-old girls, they are distinct and highly valuable gems that stand out at their age as assets in the struggle for gender equality.

Silvers

These are 14-15 year-old girls. They see themselves as clear, levelheaded, convinced and persuasive assets for women’s empowerment and gender equality.

Pearls

Girls aged 16 and above who see themselves as rare gems exhibiting superior and diverse knowledge and information.

Level 2
