The National Liaison Office of GPI in Abuja was opened in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on May 22, 2017 in accordance with the strategic plan of the organisation to extend her footprints in the empowerment of the children and especially adolescent girls to attain personal and life management skills, and mobilize them for development. The office is located at 311 Community of the Federal Housing Area of Kubwa, Abuja.

The ceremony marked the beginning of the French Embassy supported Project on “Increasing Awareness of In-School Students on Migration and Trafficking in Kubwa, FCT” and had in attendance Grace Osakue – Chairperson GPI Executive Board, Hélois Ellien – French Embassy representative,  Ehita Aikpitanyi – GPI Delta State Coordinator, Mrs Roos Willems – Belgian Embassy Political & Economic Advisor, Chinyere Eyoh – President FCT Network of NGOs Against Trafficking, Child Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), Mrs Bilikisu Hamza and Mrs Nafisa Kote representatives of FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) Junior Secondary School (JSS) Gender Desk Unit, members of 311 community where the office is located, representatives of NGOs, GPI staff, teachers and students.

The ceremony also featured a GPI graduate Ayo Amen-Ediae who shared her GPI experience. She said she had a lot of thanks to GPI for making her an empowered woman. She joined the organisation club for girls in her Secondary School (the GPI Schools’ Outreach Programme) after which she registered for the weekly GPI Centre Meetings. At these periods, she built personal and life management skills that has made her able to cope and manage life challenges despite being a wife, mother and a working-class woman. She currently is the Project Manager of a USAID funded project (SMILE) for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Edo State and the Coordinator of the GPI’s School Outreach Programme in GPI Benin Centre.

Participants gave goodwill messages one of such was from the NACTAL FCT President who commended GPI work and appreciated them being one of the pacesetters in the fight on Human Trafficking in Nigeria and as such, GPI’s presence in the FCT is a pleasure to the Network. Members of 311 community expressed feelings of joy to have the organisation in their community and expressed they are ever ready to give their support to the organisation and students present inquired on how they could partake in the GPI Centre activities.
